Principal’s Notes: 9/19/2013

GeorgeHofbauer Dear Parents,

Tuesday night we held our second open forum on the Principals White Paper. It was both lively and well attended just like the first one. Good discussions are taking place. A better understanding of our programs, our financial realities, and our basic structure is evolving for everyone. And a good amount of productive discussion is taking place throughout West Seattle. The “hits” and downloads on the “White Paper” have made it one of the hottest items on our website in our history!

Solicitations are taking place for the Centennial, the Annual Fund for the School, and (for those who are parishioners) for the 2014 pledge to the Church. Kamila Kennedy and Alicia Sands have joined with me forming a team of solicitors. If anyone else is interested please let me know. I am sending out letters asking for an appointment and explaining what it is for. I then follow up with an email asking for an appointment. If anybody wants to beat me to the punch—please feel free to contact me for a meeting. My email is

One of the things that is coming out of our meetings is a growing awareness of how important substantial responses to the school’s Annual Fund are. That is a tax-deductible way to keep everyone and—keep improving our programs without substantial tuition increases. Please think about that, and even consider increasing what you have pledged if you are capable.

The iPad program I have written about in my monthly newsletter will be initiated, for now, for third grade. If the Annual Fund generates enough I hope to do something for fourth grade.

The Magazine Drive is right on track. We have $37,734 in orders and we are headed to $125,000. So go! Go! Go! I have purchased mine.

DominicanSistersAs Father John said at mass, all the classrooms have mission cups. We will be collecting for the Dominican Sisters Retirement Fund. That is the order that founded Holy Rosary School. The children are bringing in their gifts. One parent asked about checks. They are tax-deductible, and they should be written out to Dominican Sisters. A mass of celebration with the Archbishop will be held on Saturday October 26, 2013 at 1:00 at Holy Rosary Church. Please come. Bring Alumni friends. A reception will follow in our Hall.

Remember to get your tickets for the Centennial Gala Celebration on Saturday, November 30th. It will be a fantastic event. You do not want to miss it.

Tuesday is my “walkabout day” when I observe teachers. I have seen only exceptional teaching, attentive students, and engaged learning. I saw a number of math classes where our new texts and lessons were being used. I believe it will prove to be a fantastic investment for a fantastic program.

Some information for your consideration:

  • Tuition this year for one student is $5,256 in parish
  • Tuition for one student this year is: $8,125 out of parish
  • Cost to educate one child this year is $7,615

Have a wonderful three day weekend—at WESTFEST!!!!!!!!
