From the Principal’s Desk: January 9, 2014

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2014. It is going to be a fantastic year!!! Indicators point to an improved economy. The Federal Budget was agreed upon. Pope Francis was on the cover of Time Magazine as person of the year. We are off to a good start. Let us all make it continue that way. I, along with the entire staff of Holy Rosary School, wish you all a happy, peaceful, healthy, prosperous and holy 365 day adventurous journey into the future. Let us all put our best foot forward and try not to trip over each other as we head towards the finish line .

Financial Aid

Please remember that anyone who feels the need to apply for financial aid to help with their tuition must apply thru Fulcrum. Those applications must be in by January 10, 2014. The application is available on-line at www.fulcrumfoundation.org/tuition.

Change

Last week, our Development Director, Alicia Sands, informed me that she would be leaving Holy Rosary at the end of this week. Her last day will be Friday, January 10. I met with Kamila Kennedy over the Christmas break and offered her the position. Kamila is now officially the Development Director for Holy Rosary School. The responsibilities for the parish stewardship have been removed from the job description. Kamila has already indicated a good deal of professionalism in this area, and I look forward to working with her over time.

School Survey

The yearly survey for Holy Rosary will take place next week. It will come out with this communication on Thursday. Everyone will have one week to respond. Your participation is strongly encouraged.

Open House

Mark your calendars now. The Open House for Holy Rosary School will take place on Sunday, January 26th. Please come. All the staff will be on site. The day will begin with the 9:30 Liturgy. The Principal will be offering his reflections on the readings at mass. The school Open House will follow. Bring friends and neighbors. Bring Alums. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served by the Parents Club. Student work will be on display. There will be a book fair in the library.

Fulcrum Foundation Gift of Light Dinner

fulcrum-foundation-logoThe Fulcrum Foundation is an organization within the Archdiocese of Seattle that was established eleven years ago to provide financial aid for families in need who are sending their children to Catholic Schools in our Archdiocese, and to provide financial assistance to schools in need in the Archdiocese. One major source of funding each year is the Gift of Light Dinner. It takes place during Catholic Schools Week.

This year the event will take place on Friday, January 24, 2015. It will be at the downtown Seattle Sheraton. Over 1,000 people will be in attendance, and over $1,000,000 will be raised for the cause that night. Right now we have one table of parents from Holy Rosary in attendance but it would be fantastic to have more. If you are interested in attending, please call Sue Mecham at the Fulcrum office (206-748-7988).

She can also help you with basketball tickets to the February 8th basketball game between Seattle University Redhawks and New Mexico State University Aggies. All students in our Catholic grade schools are encouraged to attend, and the profit from the sales of the tickets will help Catholic schools in our Archdiocese.
